PROFOAM INSULATION INC. WINS 2023/2024 AMHL KEG CUP

Almonte ON - ProFoam has done it! They have climbed the mountain top and claimed the ultimate prize in men's league sports by winning the 2023/2024 AMHL Keg Cup. On Saturday the boys in teal would play game 2 of the finals. They knew what had to be done, a win or a tie would seal it after their game 1 victory that even captain Brady Burke admitted the team stole from Ryno Motors just a few days before. The game started the exact way that ProFoam was hoping for, they would go on to grab a quick lead scoring about 10 minutes into the first period. Ryno Motors would quickly counter however and score to make the game 1-1. Things continued to be calculated where both team traded chances before ProFoam would capitalize on a power play late in the second period. All they had to do was run some time out and they would walk away leading going into the second period but it wasn't to be, as ProFoam would cough a puck up in their own which would be passed to a wide open Sam Hopewell who would bury the go ahead goal to make the game tied at the end of the period.

ProFoam knew that would be enough and didn't worry about it too much. They would take the lead back in the second period and it stayed 3-2 for a little while before Ryno Motors would tie the game at 3-3. Things were still close and it was anyone's game at this point but then ProFoam would again get the go ahead goal to see themselves with a 1 goal lead with only 9 minutes left in the game. All they had to do was hang on now. Things got tense and Ryno Motors would score another goal to tie the game at 4-4 with just 4 minutes left. Things were still intense until about the 2 minute mark when Jordan "Bar Down" Layman received a pass in the slot and made the most of it, scoring a beautiful go ahead goal which put them at 5-4 in the game. With a win or a tie, winning them the keg cup they knew at that point that it was over. ProFoam had done, they won the keg cup.

Not many were at the draft back in October and this writer cannot speak for the other gentleman who were in attendance but after Burkey had failed to make the playoffs in the year previous, it was baffling to see that Burkey went ahead and picked the exact same core as he did in 2022/2023. The team didn't look great at the end of last season so this writer figured that Burkey would look to go in another direction. At the end of October this writer looked like a genius when ProFoam had failed to register even 1 regular season point. It was a concern across the league that this team had enough fire power to even compete in the league. Then the turn around happened. Perry Cole joined the team and you could see a visable shift in their play. They believed internally that they were a championship team, they just had to prove it on the ice and they did. Coming back in the regular season and earning themselves the 3rd overall spot in the league. Continuing their mid place ways in the playoffs going 2-2 and earning themselves a spot in the 2/3 game and then winning a semi final game against Bruce's Car Care in a shootout and then going 2-0 in the finals against Ryno Motors to bring home the Keg Cup. Their names will be engraved in destiny on this great mug of ours. Congradulations Burkey! Congratulation ProFoam Insulation Inc, a well deserved championship!
