Brian Metcalfe Landscaping Wouldn't Stop Believing... Wins Keg Cup
Almonte ON - They think March madness only exists south of the boarder. Well this March was madness for one team... Brian Metcalfe Landscaping. A team who had rough attendance throughout the entirety of the year, a team who at one point had about a 10 game stretch without a win, a team who had to fight just to get to 4th place in the regular season, a team who's goalie quit on them, a team who played meaningful games up to their very last playoff loop game... is the team that hoists that beautiful mug at the end of the season. Before we get to the details of this team (available in the headlines) let's talk about game 2 of the finals.
The game started at 5:30 but both teams were ready to go at about 5:23, which is when they entered the ice which was already flooded and ready for them. Was a 10 minute warm up a lot for a men's game that lasts 43 minutes? Yes. Did either team care at the time? No. They had been thinking of this game all week at work. In the morning on Saturday they pretended to be present at home with the wife or girlfriend. Some had a stag that day, there was talks of decorations but their head space was elsewhere. For Brian Metcalfe Landscaping, after hearing the news of a league juggernaut Cade Townend being forcefully brought to Florida to have cocktails on the beach by his family and forced him out of the game, they were fearing the worst. Knowing they had to hang onto at least a tie or else face an uncomfortable overtime period if they lost. For Valley Plumbing, with the knowledge of knowing that league juggernaut Cade Townend being forcefully brought to Florida to have cocktails on the beach by his family and forced him out of the game, that there was immense pressure on the squad to win the game before bringing it to an overtime period to give their captain a chance at lifting that mug for the first time in his illustrious AMHL career.
The game began and you could see the fatigue of an extended warm up weighing the faces of the players, but the show went on and it was a pretty quick start. Brian Metcalfe Landscaping met adversity quickly, finding themselves in the box early and then again on the penalty kill just a minute later. They would kill an early 5 on 3 and would gtet themselves out of a bad situation quickly. It wouldn't be long after that, where BML would score first to take a 1-0 lead only 6 minutes into the game. Only 4 minutes after their first goal, Valley Plumbing would find themselves in the box killing an elbowing penalty. The penalty wasn't served for long however, on the next face off, it would be won by BML who would barry the first shot on net on the power play to take an early 2-0 lead in the game. This was the exact start the Brian Metcalfe was looking for just 8 minutes into the game but after this things took a turn. Although both teams were trading chances, it would be about 10 minutes before another goal was scored and that was a nice team effort goal from Valley Plumbing to bring the score to 2-1. This is how the game went into the break.
In the second period, it was ALL Valley Plumbing, they were all over Brian Metcalfe Landscaping offensively, just peppering shots at BML goaltender Alex Miotla but he was dealing with these shots like a goaltender who had played all season long. League veteran Curtis Pilon would get a nice shot by him however with about 13 minutes left in the second, tieing the game 2-2. It wasn't long after that, where Valley would score their 3rd unanswered goal with 8 minutes left in the game. They knew they needed to hold on for only a little while longer to get themselves in a position to get to overtime but those dreams were squashed quickly by an impressive effort from Carson Kazda, who scored the tieing goal bar down with just over 7 minutes left. At this point, Brian Metcalfe Landscaping simply had to survive to hoist the Keg Cup and that's exactly what would happen. They would hold onto the 3-3 draw all the way until the final minutes of the game before a penalty was called against the team. This gave Valley just under 2 minutes stop time to tie the game and bring it to overtime. They had their chances and hit a couple of posts on that power play but with 3 seconds left in the game BML was able to barry an empty netter to leave no doubt they had won the keg cup. It was a great game, it was a great season and every player who played on Saturday left it all out there. Congratulation Brian Metcalfe Landscaping on a fantastic season and an even better playoff run.

Brian Metcalfe Landscaping Takes Game 1
Almonte ON - The AMHL finals started on Tuesday night and the game did not disappoint. Both teams came out flying, each displaying their desire to hoist that beautiful cup on Saturday night. It would be Valley Plumbing who would open up the scoring about 15 minutes into the game. BML would answer and the game would go into the break as a tie 1-1.
The pace of the game stayed fast and each team had their share of chances but both goaltenders stood on their head making the game close. BML would take the game over in the second period, scoring another 2 goals with a beatiful effort from Captain Jordan McCabe, to take a 3-1 lead into the final minutes of the game. Valley Plumbing pressed on though and had control of the puck for much of those final minutes. They would score one late to bring the game to 3-2 with two minutes left but Brian Metcalfe Landscaping would hold on to win the game 3-2.
This means that Brian Metcalfe Landscaping brings 2 points into the the Saturday night portion of the final. They will get a couple of chances to win the cup if nessessary. A tie or win will secure it early but even a Saturday evening loss would bring the game into overtime where they would get another chance.
For Valley Plumbing, it isn't quite how they drew it up but Captain Danny Carroll has been in this exact position before. He was down 2 points heading into Saturday only a couple of years ago, his team would win that game but fall in overtime. He hopes that his squad can win this game and then secure the comeback in overtime on Saturday for his chance to get his first title in an otherwise illustrious AMHL career so far.
AMHL Finals Set to Begin Tonight
The stage is set for the championship series in the Almonte Men’s Hockey League as Valley Plumbing and Brian Metcalfe Landscaping prepare to battle in a two-game final beginning Tuesday night at 10 PM at the Almonte Arena. The format is simple: first team to four points takes the title. If the teams split the opening two games, a full 40-minute overtime will be played to decide the champion. With two teams that took very different paths to the final, the matchup feels a bit like the long-running rivalry between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots—one side trying to break through, the other relying on consistency and timely wins.
Valley Plumbing punched their ticket to the final with a hard-fought 2–1 win over Ryno Motors in Sunday’s semi-final. Entering that game as the third-place team, Valley showed the kind of tight defensive hockey that has defined their season. After dropping a playoff game to the same opponent the day before in Arnprior, the group bounced back with a disciplined effort, scoring the go-ahead goal midway through the second period of the two-period, 22-minute runtime game and hanging on the rest of the way. It was a classic Valley win—close, gritty, and just enough offense.
Brian Metcalfe Landscaping, meanwhile, delivered the biggest surprise of the playoffs. After going winless against league powerhouse Bruce’s Car Care during the regular season (0-6-2), they flipped the script in emphatic fashion. Brian Metcalfe jumped out to a 4–0 lead after the first period in Sunday’s semi-final and never looked back, cruising to a 6–0 victory. The result showed just how dangerous they can be when their offense gets rolling early and their defense locks things down.
Looking back at the regular season, the head-to-head matchup between Valley Plumbing and Brian Metcalfe Landscaping was as close as it gets. In eight meetings, the two teams came away with 4 wins each. Goals were nearly even as well, with Brian Metcalfe Landscaping holding a narrow 24- 22 advantage over the season series. Several games were decided by a single goal or two, suggesting that neither side has been able to truly separate from the other.
That balance is part of what makes this final feel like a men’s league version of the Bills versus Patriots rivalry. Much like the New England Patriots during their long run of success, Valley Plumbing has built a reputation on structure and finding ways to win tight games. Brian Metcalfe Landscaping, on the other hand, has flashes of the explosive offense associated with the Buffalo Bills—capable of putting up goals in a hurry when things click.
With the championship on the line and two evenly matched teams taking the ice, fans at the Almonte Arena should expect another tight contest Tuesday night. If the regular season and semi-finals are any indication, the opening game of the final may come down to a single bounce, a timely save, or one moment of offense that could swing the entire series. In a league where every shift matters, the margin between champion and runner-up has rarely been thinner.
Semi Final Sunday Shaping Up
Almonte ON - Through 4 out of 5 games in the playoff round robin, we almost have our answers as to who is going to play each other with their season on the line on Semi Final Sunday (March 8). On Saturday, the league will travel to neighboring town Arnprior to make up a couple of games that were lost due to the men's league wanting to watch the olympic gold medal game. On that morning we missed Brian Metcalfe Landscaping vs. ProFoam Insulation Inc and Ryno Motors vs. Valley Plumbing.
At first, the league thought that the match up between BML and ProFoam would be a larger contest then it has turned into. With 1 point and no wins in the playoff loop, ProFoam Insulation Inc was mathematically eliminated from Semi Final Sunday on Tuesday night after their 5-3 defeat to Valley Plumbing. They will play a game for funsies on Saturday against a Brian Metcalfe Landscaping team that will finish in 4th after the playoffs regardless of the result. Even if BML were to win today and Ryno Motors were to lose. Although they would tie in points, they would each have 2 wins in the playoffs and Ryno won the head to head.
Ryno Motors has no where to go other than the 2nd vs. 3rd game. A win for them today would get them to 2nd and they would play Valley Plumbing again 18 hours after they play on Saturday, a tie will put them in 3rd but still playing Valley Plumbing and a loss will have them playings Bruce's Car Care in the 2nd vs. 3rd place game on Sunday.
Valley Plumbing will need to beat Ryno Motors this afternoon in order to move into 1st place and play Brian Metcalfe Landscaping on Semi Final Sunday, or else they will play Ryno in the morning.
For Bruce's Car Care, all they can do is watch and wait. The team they play against will be determined in the 12:30 PM game... a Valley Win will have them play Ryno Motors in the 2nd vs. 3rd game and a tie or a Ryno Motors win will have them play Brian Metcalfe Landscaping in the 1st vs. 4th game.
SUNDAY'S GAMES CANCELLED DUE TO OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL GAME
Almonte ON - The Almonte Men's Hockey League hit the pause button on playoff action this past Sunday morning, and for good reason. With the men’s Olympic gold medal game capturing the attention of hockey fans across the country, the league made the call to shift its postseason schedule, allowing players and fans alike the chance to take in a game that will be quickly forgotten.
It only felt right that the AMHL community gather around televisions rather than benches for this one. Playing the golf medal game on the speaker during the game just wouldn't had felt right.
As a result, the playoff matchups originally scheduled for Sunday morning will now be played on Saturday, March 7th in Arnprior. The clash between Brian Metcalfe Landscaping and ProFoam Insulation Inc has been rescheduled for 11:30 AM, followed by Valley Plumbing taking on Ryno Motors at 12:30 PM.
With the Olympic spotlight now fading and local bragging rights back on the line, the AMHL turns its full attention to what promises to be an electric playoff run which resumes on Tuesday night.

From the Grind to the Gauntlet: AMHL Playoffs Begin Tonight
Almonte ON - The regular season curtain has officially fallen in the AMHL, wrapping up seven hard-fought loops in a tight five-team race where every two-period battle carried weight. Over months of late nights, short benches, hot streaks and cold spells, the standings finally settled — but not without drama. First place earned its cushion, the middle tightened to the very end, and even the team at the bottom proved that no matchup in this league ever comes easy.
Now the focus shifts. Beginning tonight, February 17th, the AMHL playoff loop gets underway, running through March 14th in what promises to be a sprint filled with urgency and intensity. Points earned in the regular season now translate into playoff advantages, but reputations and records won’t score goals. Every game from here on out will feel heavier, faster, and louder — even in a league built on camaraderie and competition.
What makes the AMHL playoffs special is the format itself. With only five teams and compact two-period games, there’s no time to ease into a series or wait for momentum to build. A slow start can end a run. A hot goalie can steal a night. A bounce can change a season. The margins shrink, and the belief grows.
From February 17th to March 14th, the chase for the Keg Cup takes center stage. The regular season was about positioning. The playoffs are about legacy. Buckle up — the best hockey of the year starts now.
