Welcome to the Almonte Men's Hockey League!
Tag Lines - Let's see what the media is saying about the teams this week!
Almonte, ON - This Writers Note: Boys, as time goes on, responsibilities add up and over the off season that's exactly what happened. This writer had a baby over the off season (Well he didn't have a baby but he was close by) which means that he won't have the time dedicated to misspelling compelling story lines throughout the season. So in large part he will be helped by AI unless the story is to good, in which case he'll take over. Sorry in advance for these much better storylines. Most of these stories will not be as the game happened as AI has to guess, so basically the format will stay the exact same.
OCTOBER OUTLOOK
Brian Metcalfe Landscaping October Recap: Building a Solid Foundation
Brian Metcalfe Landscaping wrapped up October with a respectable 2-1-2 record, showing steady play and plenty of resilience through the opening stretch of the season. After a rough first game where, as reports go, most of the team “tasted blood,” every contest since has been a step in the right direction. The group has focused on playing smart, structured hockey — and the results are beginning to show as they find their rhythm and build some early momentum.
What’s most impressive is that BML has yet to play a game with all four of their defencemen in the lineup. The rotating blue line has forced the team to adapt on the fly, but they’ve handled it with poise and teamwork. As for Brian Zorgel, his extended absence remains a bit of a mystery. Official reports cite a case of “back gout,” though this writer isn’t entirely convinced. At this rate, Zorgel may need to reintroduce himself to his teammates when he returns in July.
Off the ice, BML leads the league in new fatherhood, with three players welcoming babies under three months old. Despite the sleepless nights and diaper duty, the dads have managed to bring their best to the rink — a true testament to their dedication (and caffeine intake).
All in all, October was a positive start for Brian Metcalfe Landscaping. They’ve shown strong chemistry, solid effort, and a sense of humor through the chaos — exactly the traits needed for a successful men’s league campaign. With Movember ahead, BML will look to keep the good vibes rolling and continue their climb up the standings.
Bruce’s Car Care October Recap: Full Throttle Start to the Season
Bruce’s Car Care came roaring out of the gate in October, posting an impressive 4-0-1 record to open the AMHL season. From the opening puck drop, the team has looked sharp, confident, and well-balanced across all positions. Whether it’s the defensive corps jumping into the rush or the forwards burying timely goals, Bruce’s has found contributions up and down the lineup — a clear sign of a team firing on all cylinders.
The only blemish on an otherwise perfect month came in a hard-fought tie, a game that got off to an unusual start when Luke Martin managed to shatter the glass during warmups — again. The extended delay seemed to throw off the team’s rhythm just enough to prevent a full two points, but even then, Bruce’s battled hard and kept their unbeaten streak alive.
Inside the Bruce’s Car Care locker room, the mood is understandably light. The group is clicking, the chemistry is evident, and they’ve quickly established themselves as the team to watch in the early going. There’s no panic, no ego — just a confident, veteran squad that knows how to win hockey games.
Now, it’s still early — as the saying goes, you can’t win the Keg Cup in October — but this writer can’t help but think the boys at Bruce’s might already be mapping out their parade route. If they keep playing the way they have been, they might just have reason to start planning the celebration.
Ryno Motors October Recap: Finding Their Stride
The first month of the AMHL season didn’t quite go as planned for Ryno Motors, who wrapped up October with a 1-5 record. Despite the numbers, the team was competitive in nearly every outing, finding themselves on the wrong end of several close games that could have easily swung their way with a bounce or two. The effort and compete level have been there from the start — the results just haven’t caught up yet.
Between the pipes, Matt Pepin has been nothing short of a warrior. Having played in what feels like every game in the league so far, Pepin’s consistency and endurance have been a bright spot for Ryno. His heavy workload early on should pay off as the team continues to gel and find its rhythm heading into the winter stretch.
Ryno Motors made sure to avoid going winless in October, picking up their first victory of the season in their final game of the month against ProFoam — a well-earned result that could serve as a turning point. The group isn’t making excuses, but as the oldest team in the league, they know it takes a bit longer to get into playoff shape. That said, the experience and composure of this roster remain undeniable, and signs of progress are already showing.
And one final note for anyone sharing the ice: stay clear of Captain Sam Hopewell’s shot. The veteran blueliner has no hesitation about firing through traffic — teammate or opponent alike. Consider it a badge of honor if you survive a Hopewell slapper without a bruise to show for it. With October behind them and the rust shaking off, Ryno Motors is ready to turn effort into wins as November gets underway.
ProFoam Insulation Inc. October Recap: A New Look and a New Energy
It’s a new season and a new look for ProFoam Insulation Inc., and early signs point to a team that’s finding its identity — and making an impression. With a 2-3-1 record to close out October, the squad has shown both flashes of brilliance and a few growing pains, but there’s no question they’re in a much better position than at this time last year. The locker room has a fresh vibe, a strong core, and enough size to make every faceoff feel like a battle in the trenches.
Word around the league is that Burkey has implemented a height requirement just to enter the ProFoam locker room, and it shows — this team easily towers over the competition as the tallest roster in the league. Fortunately, the size comes with skill. Leading the way has been Mack, who’s been nothing short of sensational, racking up nine goals in six games to start the season — a pace that currently leads the entire league and has him drawing comparisons to a men’s league version local Junior B Legend Mack Miller.
While the results have been mixed, ProFoam’s early performance has shown grit, chemistry, and promise. They’ve proven they can hang with anyone on any night, and as the team continues to gel, the wins should start piling up. There’s plenty to build on as they head into November.
And speaking of November — don’t be surprised if ProFoam dominates the Movember participation board. With the cast of characters in that room, it’s a safe bet this crew will grow the biggest, boldest mustaches in the league — and maybe a few that could use some insulation of their own. Expect ProFoam to keep climbing, both in the standings and in style.
Valley Plumbing October Recap: From Hot Start to Hard Lessons
Valley Plumbing came out of the gates firing in October, opening the season with a 3-0 record and looking every bit like an early contender. The team was rolling through opponents with confidence and cohesion, executing on both sides of the puck and showing off the kind of chemistry that turns heads in the AMHL. For a while, it looked like nobody was going to be able to slow them down.
But the tide began to turn in a late-night 11 PM matchup against Bruce’s Car Care, where emotions ran high and discipline slipped away. Valley Plumbing saw three players ejected in what became their first loss of the season — a chaotic turning point that shifted the momentum of their month. Since that fiery affair, the team has dropped two more, evening their record at 3-3 to close out October.
Despite the rough finish, there’s no panic in the Valley Plumbing dressing room. The team knows what they’re capable of, and a few tough lessons early in the year can serve as valuable fuel moving forward.
As Movember begins, Valley Plumbing will look to flush away the frustrations of their recent skid and get back to their winning ways. With the talent and effort they’ve shown, few doubt this squad will be back in the mix and climbing the standings in no time.
This Writer's Note: This writer didn't even prompt a Plumbing Pun, it just created that on it's own. AI has clearly been following the write ups over the past few years.
